How do I wash my hands properly? This is a question we get asked all the time here at Nursem. Hand washing is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself from illness and infection. As we know, it has been a huge factor in preventing the spread of Covid-19, which is why it’s so important to learn the proper hand washing technique.
However, frequent hand washing takes its toll on our skin. Nurses wash their hands on average 55 times per day, and consequently, 87% of nurses suffer from contact dermatitis and other skin conditions. It’s safe to say many of us can sympathise now we're also washing our hands relentlessly!
Our products are specifically formulated for skin that suffers the effects of frequent hand washing. So we want to give you a few tips on how to wash your hands properly whilst keeping them protected and well conditioned.
1. Follow the proper hand washing technique
First and foremost, a thorough hand washing technique is the best method of cleaning your hands. 20-30 seconds is a good amount of time to spend washing your hands (or singing happy birthday twice!) You can find our video guide on the proper hand washing technique here.
2. Use a gentle hand wash
Our gentle SLS-free and soap-free hand wash is ideal for sensitive skin. It works just like traditional soap, cleaning your hands effectively with three different types of natural surfactants. These surface-active agents lift microbes off the skin allowing them to be rinsed away, leaving your hands thoroughly clean and protected.
We fortify our formula with Pro Vitamin B5, Glycerin and plant-derived oils. These help reduce damage to your skin’s natural lipid barrier, allowing your hands to retain essential moisture and prevent them from drying out.
3. Don’t forget hand care!
Damaged hands are more susceptible to infection, as cuts and abrasions allow bacteria to permeate the skin’s barrier. This is why it’s so important to ensure your skin is nourished and well conditioned. Whilst washing your hands relentlessly increases the likelihood of your hands becoming chapped and dry, using a hydrating hand cream ensures your skin’s natural barrier is well protected.
Combined with a gentle hand wash, you can rest assured that no matter how many times you wash your hands, your skin will remain conditioned and protected!
Please continue to wash your hands regularly and thoroughly, and stay safe!
